The Blog About Nothing

I'm stumped. How many times have you felt yourself saying or feeling this throughout the day? Most people have grown up with the mantra to follow your dreams, your passion. We're encouraged to cultivate our passion and skills so that we can build upon this into our adulthood. Some are lucky to find their calling; doctors, lawyers, teachers, chefs, artists, entrepreneurs. There is a vast majority out there however, like myself, that just float around society trying to grasp onto something stable and solid. And as we hope to just stumble and fall into the niche where we belong, a lot of business, psychology/sociology, or liberal arts majors are handed diplomas unsure of what to do with it next.

The childhood dreams I had were to become an artist or a writer. Somehow through my adolescent life, I felt unworthy among my ripe and talented peers. So I lost touch with this aspiration and felt it was an unattainable goal. I became a seedling, a bud that never flourished among the plethora of fauna. I ditched the ideals and continued to live life on cruise control. Now twenty-something, I am in the process of reevaluating & discovering my ambitions and skills.

A lot of career advice articles tell you to look into your interests and what you like to do as a starting point. Naive and hopeful, I dug through the job sources for any type of editorial or writing positon. The most unique result was writers for the Examiner. A thrilling opportunity. The catch? Although a New Yorker, I do not consider myself an expert in any of their categories to provide readers exceptional insight. Nightlife? Yes, I've been to the clubs and I enjoy the local bars and lounges... but I do not frequent them enough to say what is the latest and hottest item of the week. Food? I love to eat, who wouldn't want to devour tasty food? But I also probably would like anything the Top Chef contestants dish out that the judges would trash in a heartbeat.

So rather than feel dimished by my lack of expertise, this dilettante is finding another outlet to scratch the creative itch. After discussing with a friend how discouraged I was that I did not follow any specific disciplines, she suggested that I write the Seinfeld blogs: The Blog about Nothing. No central theme, no plot...

And so here we are.

The Blog About Nothing
I would like to say I'm an expert on fashion, food, literature or politics. But I am no guru or connoisseur of any sort. I am a dilettante, a dabbler. A Jack (or Jill) of all trades. What is it about? NOTHING. Like Forrest Gump's box of chocolates... You never know what you're going to get.
